Situated at coordinates 26.75°N 94.22°E, Jorhat City is bordered by Lakhimpur district to the north, Nagaland state to the south, Sivasagar to the east, and Golaghat to the west. The term "Jorhat" or "Jorehaut" refers to two hats or mandis, namely "Macharhat" and "Chowkihat," which were present on the opposite banks of the river Bhugdoi during the 18th century. Read More
